While following a low carb diet, it’s easy to get discouraged. It can sometimes feel like there’s a lot of avoiding foods and cutting back. However, going on the keto diet can be an excellent opportunity to try new meals and food! There are many recipes to try, and many are outlined in the Body Reboot book. The book also explains why going on the ketogenic diet can be life-changing. After all, this low-carb, high-fat diet has helped many people get healthy and lose weight. Maybe it can do the same for you too.
Dr. Axe provides four great meal ideas that are filling and taste good too! These meals incorporate some of the keto food staples while still undoubtedly making food taste delicious.
Balsamic Glazed Steak Rolls
Get a helping of veggies in every bite of these tender steak rolls. The beef marinates in a Worcestershire sauce and then gets rolled up around whatever crisp veggies you have on hand. Pan sear them and top with a balsamic glaze for a juicy low-carb meal.
Beef and Chorizo Empanadas
Not only are these empanadas low-carb, but they’re also gluten-free. You use almond flour and cheese for the dough and then stuff these with ground beef, a pork sausage alternative (I love chicken!) and eggs for a ton of protein.
Carrot Taco Shell
I might have cheated a little bit here, but because this recipe is so easy and so genius, I had to include it! Skip preservative-laden taco shells from the store and make your own carrot version instead! Use these shells and stuff with your favorite fillings: Tex-Mex inspired with black beans, onions and peppers, eggs, spinach and feta cheese for a low-carb breakfast version or just all your favorite salad fixings.
Curried Salmon Patties
Each patty is packed with spinach, zucchini and an egg to keep it all together — plus a zap to the taste buds, courtesy of the curry and red pepper flakes! These salmon patties freeze well, so make an extra batch to have on hand for a quick lunch or dinner.
Vixen Daily also gives us the scoop on some more delicious meal ideas to try. Hey, who says your diet has to be limited while on keto?!
This loaded cauliflower made with butter, sour cream, chives, cheddar cheese, and bacon is the ultimate low carb comfort meal.
Cauliflower is definitely the unsung hero of the low carb world. If you are craving loaded baked potatoes, this meal is the perfect alternative.
Low Carb Taco Night With Cheese Taco Shells
Just because you eat low carb doesn’t mean you have to give up on taco night. Try making these cheese taco shells that are made from baked cheddar cheese formed into the shape of a taco.
Then, fill them with some delicious low carb ingredients and you’ve got yourself a low carb taco meal.
Baked Tilapia in homemade Asian Orange Sauce
This is the perfect meal – it’s tasty, quick, and so healthy for you. It’s high in protein, low fat, low carb, low sodium, low sugar, and completely dairy and sugar-free!
The price for Tilapia fish is pretty low but it has very high nutrition. The Asian orange sauce is also full of nutrients and bursting with flavor.
Ready for some more dinner ideas? Yeah, we are too. Huffington Post tells you about some amazing meals to try, and I have to say my mouth is officially watering!
The Noodle-Free Asian Supper
These gingery beef lettuce wraps are so hearty, it’s hard to believe there are no noodles involved. You start by cooking ground beef until it’s browned, then stir in ginger, scallions, garlic, soy sauce, red pepper flakes and hoisin sauce for a few minutes, so all the flavors can mingle. Scoop a heaping spoonful of the sweet and savory mixture into each lettuce cup, sprinkle with peanuts and enjoy the wonderful way tastes contrast textures.
A Succulent Twist on a Classic Chicken Dish
This mouthwatering new take on chicken kebabs is a welcome break from the usual, but just as easy to throw together. The key player: a garlicky, herb-flecked chimichurri sauce that you can also drizzle over vegetables or a side salad. And you can just as easily cook the skewers under the broiler or in the oven, if you don’t want to grill.
A Vibrant Spanish Supper
Cod fillets topped with a from-scratch tomato sauce bolstered with smoky Spanish chorizo sounds like the type of dish that could take awhile, but this recipe proves otherwise. The spicy pork sausage, which is cured, is already cooked; so, you only need to sauté it for a few minutes for it to become tender. Halved cherry tomatoes cook in even less time, and flaky, white cod needs only about six minutes to brown to perfection. The pièce de résistance: a sauce that you can use to top the fish, which pulls everything together nicely.
A Greek Dinner Where You Won’t Miss the Pita
Although many Greek dishes come wrapped in a split-open pocket, you won’t need any bread to enjoy this shrimp-feta combination. You can leave the tails on and cook the peeled, deveined shrimp over the grill or on a grill pan; or, remove and pan-fry them in a skillet. Whichever technique you use, the shrimp’s lemony-garlicky flavor gets a boost from a finishing sprinkle of crumbled feta and chopped dill.
If you’re not into cooking or don’t have a lot of time to prepare a meal, Ditch the Carbs provides some excellent ideas on some quick meal options. Many of these foods are keto staples, so they can also be incorporated into recipes when you do have more time to cook and bake. The author also mentions some great snack ideas. Eggs, anyone?
BASIC LOW-CARB MEALS – NO RECIPE REQUIRED
These basic low-carb meals are so easy, they don’t even require a recipe.
Hot cooked chicken and a bag of salad from the grocery store
Eggs – poached, fried, scrambled, boiled …
Selection of cheese and deli meats
Bag of salad with meat and cheese
My favourite would have to be eggs. I love them scrambled with butter and greens, Scotch Eggs, as a 1 minute muffin or poached in my egg maker.
Forget protein powders (highly processed and expensive). If you need protein, reach for an egg. And if you are fed up with eggs, why not try cheese, tinned/canned tuna, or a few nuts instead.
Just remember not to go overboard on low-carb snacks. They can be one of the biggest culprits to stopping weight loss.
Check out more keto meal and snack ideas, courtesy of Livestrong. What’s great about these snacks is that they’re tasting and filling! When you’re trying to stay on a diet having a full stomach is really helpful because it should prevent you from eating more since you’re already full.
Quantity counts when it comes to hunger control. Low-carb veggies have a low energy density, which means you get to eat a large portion without it costing too many calories or carbs. People who eat more low-energy-dense foods get full fast and stay satisfied longer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Alfalfa sprouts, endive, escarole, watercress, lettuce, raw spinach, turnip greens, bok choy and radishes have less than 1 gram of net carbs per 1/2-cup serving size, making them the most filling on your low-carb diet. Other low-carb veggies that keep you feeling full include broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, eggplant, portobello mushrooms, bell peppers and tomatoes.
The fiber in these veggies also helps keep hunger pangs away. Fiber adds bulk, so it fills you and takes longer to digest, helping you stay full. A half-cup of cooked broccoli has 2 grams of fiber, cauliflower 3 grams of fiber and turnip greens 6 grams of fiber. Raw spinach has 2 grams of fiber per 1/2 cup.
